IKEA Installs Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in 10 US Stores

IKEA will install electric vehicle charging stations in 10 Western US Stores as part of the furniture giant’s collaboration with ECOtality, Inc. Two charging stations will be installed in each location until this fall, in Arizona, California, Oregon, and Washington. There was no official announcement naming which stores will be chosen. We also found out from Inhabitat that this is a bigger ECOtality, Inc.’s project – installing a “14,000 commercial and residential charging stations with financial assistance from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).” Mike Ward, IKEA U.S. president declared: “We are excited this partnership will make charging stations more accessible to the many people choosing to drive electric vehicles. Hosting charging stations at IKEA locations known for regional draws furthers our commitment to a smaller carbon footprint and technological opportunities that help protect the environment”. By strategically choosing these locations, IKEA hopes to extend their client base and the pilot project will run until the end of 2012.
